What is ESP?

Extrasensory Perception or ESP is known as the ability to attain information using paranormal means. Whenever the world paranormal gets thrown around, people start to become skeptical and start thinking of aliens or ghosts, but ESP is different. People claim to have the ability to get information without using any physical senses or deduction from previous experiences.

People with ESP are mostly called psychics and deal with telepathy, precognition, and mediumship. The topic of ESP is very controversial because even though Parapsychologists explore the idea, there is no scientific evidence of this ability to be true.

Telepathy is the term most associated with ESP. Telepathy is a way to transfer information on thoughts and feelings without using the five human senses. Parapsychologists study and test this by using Zener cards. These are the cards that have the different shapes such as a circle, cross, waves, square, and star on them. The test, known as the Ganfez Experiment, has one person known as the “sender” to choose a random card, and the “receiver” has to guess what card the sender chose.

Precognition is another part of ESP. This is the idea that a person is able to perceive information about people or places before they happen. Basically, with this ability, one is able to see into the future. The first study of precognition took place back in 1927 where a man felt like he was having dreams about things that would eventually come true. In the late 1930’s tests of precognition included people guessing the order of a card deck before it was shuffled.
